Toucan Digital. FAQs

What is Toucan Digital?

Toucan Digital is a suite of modern tools designed to simplify charity digital fundraising. It includes QR code generation, donation pages, and integrations with email, SMS, and websites—making online giving quick and easy.

What is a QR Code and how do charities use them for donations?

A QR code (Quick Response code) is a type of barcode that stores information, such as a website link, that can be quickly accessed by scanning the code with a smartphone or tablet.

How charities use QR codes for donations:

  • Simplified Giving - Charities place QR codes on flyers, posters, or at events. Donors scan the code to be instantly directed to a donation page on their mobile devices.
  • Flexible Donations - Donors can contribute any amount, even above the £100 contactless payment limit, by scanning the QR code.
  • Targeted Campaigns - QR codes can link to specific donation pages, providing easy access to fundraising campaigns or charity details.
  • Increased Engagement - Charities can use QR codes to share event info, updates, and more, encouraging ongoing support.

QR codes streamline the donation process, making it quicker and more convenient for donors.

What are donation buttons?

Donation buttons on charity websites are clickable elements that allow visitors to easily contribute to a charity's cause. Typically, these buttons are prominently displayed on the charity's homepage or donation page and lead to a secure payment platform where users can make one-time or recurring donations.

How do donation buttons work?
  • Easy Access - Donors simply click the button, which takes them to a page where they can enter their donation amount and payment details.
  • Multiple Payment Options - These buttons often integrate with various payment systems like credit/debit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, or other online payment methods.
  • Customisable - Charities can customise the buttons with specific messages, such as "Donate Now," "Support Our Cause," or "Give Today," to encourage donations.
What are SMS links?

SMS links are clickable links embedded in text messages (SMS) that, when clicked, direct the recipient to a specific action or webpage. In the context of charities, these links are often used to facilitate easy donations or provide more information.

How charities use SMS links:

  • Facilitating Donations - Charities can send SMS messages with a link to a donation page. Donors simply click the link to contribute directly from their mobile device.
  • Text-to-Give Campaigns - Charities may promote a campaign where donors can text a keyword (e.g., "GIVE") to a short number. An SMS reply may include a link to a donation page for further details or to finalise the donation.
  • Event Promotion - SMS links can provide quick access to event details, registration pages, or invitations, making it easier for supporters to get involved.
  • Engaging Supporters - Charities use SMS links to send updates, thank-you messages, or campaign progress reports, encouraging continuous support.
What is a bespoke donation page?

A bespoke donation page is a custom-designed online platform tailored to a charity's specific needs, branding, and fundraising goals. With Toucan Giving, charities can easily create their own personalised donation page for their website. This page is highly configurable and brandable to align with the charity's unique identity.

Once donors click through, they are securely directed to the donation page where they can enter their details and choose the amount they wish to donate.

What is a virtual terminal?

A virtual terminal is an online payment processing tool that allows charities to accept card payments without needing physical hardware like a card reader. It is accessed via a web browser, where the charity manually enters a donor's payment information, such as credit/debit card details, to process the transaction.
